Cocoradio was founded in 2005 by a couple of Reggae Music lovers from Accra / Ghana. Their intention was and still is, to spread that unique chilling sound of Reggae Music, together with all it’s fantastic sub styles, to the people all over the world. Cocoradio was always a pure Internet Reggae Radio Station, that’s totally free to listen at an amazing good sound quality. Nowadays, thanks to the daily growing global network performance, better than it ever was!
Starting with the launch of Cocoradio in early 2005, the daily Reggae Radio station playlist was a well mixed combination of a classical Roots Reggae Radio, Ragga and Dancehall Radio station.
- Roots Reggae is that typical Jamaican Reggae sound, you may remember from well known Reggae icons like Bob Marley or Beres Hammond.
- Ragga and Dancehall once was becoming popular in the late 1970’s. In the 2000s, Dancehall (also called Ragga) experienced a big worldwide mainstream success. The most popular Dancehall artists are names like Shaggy, Sean Paul or Buju Banton.
Considering the today’s global mainstream, Cocoradio decided to include another third genre to its daily Reggae Radio station playlist. The genius Latin Reggae sub style called “Reggaeton“.
- Reggaeton also known as reggaetón or reguetón, is a music style which has its roots in Puerto Rico during the late 1990s. It is influenced by Hip Hop, Latin American, and Caribbean Reggae music. The vocals are singing and rapping, mostly in Spanish. Reggaeton is one of the most popular music genres in the Spanish-speaking Caribbean, in countries like Puerto Rico, Panama, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Colombia and Venezuela. Nowadays, Reggaeton gains most popularity across Latin America, as well as a growing acceptance within the mainstream Western music.
